Barnsley College has been recognised for its commitment to inclusion and diversity after receiving the Investors in Diversity Award.
The college was commended for its work in advancing inclusivity after a thorough assessment by the National Centre for Diversity (NCD), which granted Investors in Diversity status at Advanced Stage 2.
The NCD report praised the college for its ‘exemplary practice’ and the ‘pivotal role’ leaders have taken in advancing inclusivity within the college. The report highlighted the clear evidence provided by the college of consolidating practice on equality and diversity, particularly since 2012 when the Single Equality Scheme was produced.

Comments from students to the external assessment team included: “The college is like a family and you feel welcome,” “There are different people and cultures” and “I look forward to college.”
College Principal Colin Booth said: “I am highly delighted that the college has been awarded the Investors in Diversity award at Stage 2 and would like to thank and congratulate all our staff and learners who helped us to achieve this.
“We believe that all those who form the community at Barnsley College – including students, governors, staff, visitors and contractors – have a right to be valued equally and to have equality of opportunity.
“We will continue to promote shared values that include equality and diversity, valuing and involving our staff, showing care and respect for others and demonstrating honesty and fairness in everything we do. The delivery and promotion of equal opportunities underpins the college’s vision and development plan.”
