Barnsley College catering student Bradley Mitchell has been commended for his craftsmanship in a prestigious national chocolatier competition
Bradley Mitchell’s efforts during a gruelling five hours won a chocolate holding tank which will be used for melting chocolate and holding tempered chocolate at a required temperature by the College’s Catering and Hospitality department.
The 18-year-old, of Merchant Croft, Barnsley, produced 12 handmade raspberry and white chocolate rolled truffles, 20 cherry and dark chilli moulded pralines, a truffle torte with passion fruit jelly on a praline and pailleté feuilletine base and a chocolate centrepiece with a summer theme.
Bradley said: “The day was very hard work but I gained new skills and knowledge from the experience and learnt from the ideas of the other students who took part. I am very proud of this achievement and would love to enter further competitions.”
Angela McGinley, Advanced Instructor in the College’s Catering and Hospitality department, mentored Bradley in the competition. She said: “Bradley is a very independent learner and we had no hesitation in putting him forward for this competition. He deserves great credit for his performance and the ability to improvise which he displayed on the day.”
