Barnsley Churches Drop-in Project has been providing food, clothing, shelter and advice to local people in need since 2002. The centre, now situated in Temperance House on Peel Street, is a much needed lifeline for Barnsley’s homeless community and those with mental health and addiction issues.
Recently the centre’s resources have been stretched to a point at which we now make almost weekly appeals for donations and volunteers. With this in mind we are holding the first of what we hope will be a number of fundraising events on Friday September 8th featuring some genuinely exceptional local talent: live acts include the outstanding voice and guitar of Danny Smart and the unique Brad and Co. showcasing their folk/pop crossover. There’s a welcome return from Jez ‘Jezta’ Platts, one of the town’s most celebrated DJs and there are other acts to be confirmed soon. Entry is £2, there’ll be a raffle and collections on the night and every penny raised will go straight to the centre. The organisers and volunteers at BCDP work very hard for nothing and hope that, with a series of events like this, we can raise the profile of the venture and ensure it continually provides for the people of Barnsley who need it most.
