Fresh feel-good music, West End War Horse songman, and world famous saxophonist at The Civic.

Will Pound Band

The Civic welcomes BBC Radio 2 Folk Award and Musician of the Year nominee Will Pound next month, confirming his status as “one of the world’s top harmonica players” (The Daily Telegraph) and heading up one of the most exciting new bands on the roots circuit – Will Pound Band.

And just two weeks later, Bob Fox “the most complete male artist in English Folk” (The Daily Telegraph) and “one of England’s finest voices” (Ralph McTell) will be performing songs from the West End and national touring production of War Horse. And Snake Davis, the sax player’s sax player is back with a stunning collection of old favourites and self penned numbers.

The Will Pound Band will be paying a visit to The Civic as part of their New Tradition Tour.  They may have been performing for barely a year but the increasingly impressive band have been making waves at sold out shows, festivals and industry conferences up and down the country with their exuberant, feel-good music. Tuning up for their first ever tour, their fresh, intricately interwoven music is a perfect sound to greet a new year.  It’s a success story born from adversity; having undergone heart operations as a child, quartet leader Will took up harmonica as an aid to breathing problems – and it has certainly worked! “Every now and then someone comes along in the music scene who stops you in your tracks” (ABC Australian National Radio)

Bob Fox

Bob Fox has played the role of songman in War Horse for the past three years, both in the West End and in the UK/Ireland and South Africa touring production. Bob has now returned to his roots to play Folk Clubs, Arts Centres and Folk Festivals throughout the UK.  Join him as he performs the songs from the multi award winning smash hit War Horse, with additional material from his own personal repertoire – a number of stories and songs built up from his forty year career in the music industry.  This event is a great opportunity to see one of the finest exponents of storytelling through song, come and see “one of the scene’s superior singers… his voice is as confident and ebullient as it ever was” (Folk Roots).

Snake Davis

World famous saxophonist Snake is back with a stunning collection of saxophone led instrumentals and old favourites. With sauntering sax, jazz-tinted balladeering mixed with soul-fused instrumentals; Snake Davis is funkier and fruitier than we’ve heard in a long time, playing new tricks and ballads to perfection.  If you think you haven’t heard Snake playing before, you could be mistaken, having played with legends such as Ray Charles to Take That; Mary Wilson to Will Young and of course his long association with M-People, Heather Small and Lisa Stansfield.  Catch them perform classics from McCartney to Junior Walker and Prince, as well as self-penned numbers. Snake Davis in full flow is a gorgeous thing! “Snake’s staple is soul and funk but to talk in terms of genres ignores his great strength, the ability to evoke moods and places through his music… fabulous entertainment from a consummate musician.”   (News and Star)
