Enlightened 2013 is presented by laser cutting and engraving firm Cutting Technologies and creative studio DMSQD and will feature works from renowned creatives including Raid71, Sawdust, Daniel Heath and DMSQD’s own creative director Kyle Wilkinson. The exhibition, which previews at an exclusive event on 21 February, will run for two weeks at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre. Designers have been given complete freedom in terms of style, materials and concepts but their work must incorporate laser cutting and/or engraving.
Jane Robinson, Director at Barnsley-based firm Cutting Technologies, said: “Increasing numbers of creatives are coming to us to discover how laser cutting and engraving technology can transform their designs. Enlightened is all about exploring that and bringing laser technology to audiences in a way that inspires and provokes.”
“We’ve been lucky to get some fantastic designers on board and we’ll be exhibiting exclusive works ranging from a pop-art inspired acrylic and steel poster to laser cut latex garments from a leading fetish fashion designer. It’s a really exciting demonstration of what lasers can achieve.”
Kyle Wilkinson, Creative Director at Barnsley’s DMSQD, added: “We’ve been working with Cutting Technologies on various projects for a while now and when this exhibition was suggested, we jumped at the chance to make it happen.”
“The way technology is constantly transforming what is possible means the opportunities for designers are increasing all the time. Enlightened is a great way of giving some superb designers the chance to push their creative limits.”
Enlightened opens to the public on Friday 22nd February for two weeks at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre, County Way, Barnsley and is free to attend.
