LIVE in Barnsley – More Bands

LIVE in Barnsley, the town’s first metropolitan free music festival sponsored by Fenton and Fenton Roofing Specialists, is now in to its third year and is set to take place again this summer on Saturday 20th June.  This year there are 14 venues and 126 bands taking part.

This week the spotlight falls on bands from Yorkshire and beyond;

Ryan Lauder is Scottish singer/songwriter who has just moved to the area. He tells us he plays acoustic music that has an americana twist. Ryan has toured all over the country and supported one of his favourite musicians, Langhorne Slim, across America in 2010. He’s also supported the likes of The Lumineers, Mumford and Sons and First Aid Kit. He’s been recording an album with producer Andy Strange in London for the past 3 years and is only now getting back on the gigging circuit.

Kazo are rapidly becoming known as an emerging and popular band on the North West music scene, followed and supported by music legends such as Noel Gallagher and Happy Monday’s Dan Broad. They are already turning heads in the music industry, played a host of high-profile gigs including Noel Gallagher’s after show party, City Square Etihad Stadium, and several festivals in and around Manchester.  Kazo are four young men from Stockport who are playing it the old fashioned way. Learning their trade like the best bands did in the 60’s, playing gigs, where ever they can, crafting their live shows and making new fans wherever they take the stage. Think early Led Zeppelin, mixed with The Red Hot Chilli Peppers with a sprinkling of Radiohead and you have some idea of what the guys are about.  They have just released their first EP – Cocktails & Canapes – produced by Dan Broad of the legendary  Happy Mondays (Happy Mondays, Peter Hook, Badly Drawn Boy, Johnny Marr) at The Edge Studio.

Tre is a uk hiphop artist from Harrogate.  He paints pictures with words and invites you to come along for the journey. His writings are Inspired by life, so the listener is never far a way from a lyric to relate to.

Glenn Godfrey is a rap artist born and raised in Essex and has been writing song lyrics since he was thirteen. In March 2013 Glenn released his first debut solo single titled “I’m Young”, which gained critical recognition and over 24,000 views on youtube.  Glenn said: “Black and Blue’ is his latest single and was the first song he wrote about a broken relationship. The term doesn’t refer to the physical side of things, it’s how it leaves you mentally.”

Toadstool are from The Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire and are a three piece contemporary hard-rock band. Fusing together retrospective and modern hard rock influences.  The band have played Hard Rock Hell Festival twice, supported acts such as Reckless Love and Slam Cartel and have played at legendary venues and festivals including The 100 Club, Nottingham Rock City and Monmouth Festival. Heavy riff flavoured based songs, with strong melodic hooks, blues rock influences and just a hint of progressive rock. Primary influences include Led Zeppelin, Rush, T-Rex and Wolfmother.

Bull In The Whisky Shop formed in 2014, through a shared love of 90’s style alternative rock bands such as Sonic Youth and My Bloody valentine. The band’s line-up consists of James J Blake and Emily Carney on guitar vocals, Adam Smithson on guitar, Dado Bastien on bass and Luke Thorpe on drums.  They hail from Manchester and  released their début self titled EP in November 2014.

Roseville are a Leeds based band playing the best of modern country,americana,rock and bluegrass music from the likes of Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Rascal Flatts to name but a few. They are a 7 piece multi harmony line up with some of the finest country musicians in the UK.

The Kingcrows are from Leeds and have been gigging since 2006, the Kingcrows were formed out of a need to play fun, noisy, chaotic punky rock ‘n’ roll, make a racket, have a laugh and hopefully entertain a few people. They are loud, brash and highly visual.  Since then they’ve released four EPs and a compilation album, played the Nice N Sleazy punk festival five times and supported Spear Of Destiny, the UK Subs, Anti Nowhere League, the Rezillos, 999 and GBH.

Pure Lilac are an Indie rock band from High Green/Chapeltown/ Barnsley whose members are: Harry Appleby, Liam Short, Tom Beeston, Lewis Brayford
