My name is Jonathan Rowland. I grew up in Mapplewell and have lived here all of my life. I became a prison officer in 2005 at HMP Wakefield, and went on to specialise as a PEI (physical education instructor). In that time I have specialised in strength and conditioning, GP referrals, cardiac rehabilitation and injury rehabilitation. I continue upgrading my qualifications each year to ensure I am current with the best training providers in the country.
I set Mapplewell health and wellbeing up in November 2019. The goal of the business was to address the rising concern of obesity and related conditions in the Barnsley and surrounding areas. Not only that, I want to provide a service that is going to actually help people who deserve it. I see it way too often that a member of the public will attend a physio, chiropractor, doctor etc and get sent away within 5-30 minutes without any real care being given to them. This is not the health professionals fault. The government or the company will only give them a small amount of time to assess and treat the client. For me, this is not enough and I wanted to provide something that really looked after the person.
We are a one to one studio based in Mapplewell equipped with everything the client needs to reach their goals. Our initial assessment lasts for 2 hours and every session after that lasts a minimum of 1 hour.
We also provide FREE community fitness sessions in Mapplewell park every Saturday at 10:00 hrs. This is proving to be a big hit, bringing the community together to get fit, meet new people, and getting families and friends enjoying training whilst raising money for an amazing charity Candlelighters. This is a children’s cancer charity that helps improves the lives of the children and families of children in the Yorkshire region.
We are now beginning to provide first aid training for all types and sizes of businesses. These range from 1 day level 3 emergency first aid at work courses, through to the full 3 day first aid at work course as well as manual handling.
Everything we do relates to the improvement of the physical and mental health and wellbeing of the public.
