Snow Is Guaranteed At Yorkshire Sculpture Park This Winter, So Come And Build A Snowman!

Christmas has come early to Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) this winter with a fresh flurry of snow on 29 November 2014.

Start the festivities off by making your very own snowman in Let it Snow! Snow Sculpture Making at YSP (free)Drop in with all the family during the day to make your own snow sculptures, in celebration of the arrival of Turner-Prize nominee Gary Hume’s sculpture, Snowman, Two Balls Twinkle White. In association with Snozone, Castleford.

Then bring along the little ones for Are Snowmen Magical? An Interactive Storytelling Experience for Young Children (14 December, age 0–5, £3, adults free), and make, move and curate new artworks inspired by Hume’s sculpture.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! There are loads of things to do to celebrate the season at YSP with great art, special events, award-winning shopping and fabulous food and drink.

Combine art and music at Brass Christmas (19 December, £38) with an evening viewing of the major Underground Gallery exhibition by Ursula von Rydingsvard, accompanied by Emley Moor Brass Quartet. Guests will enjoy a three-course meal in the YSP Restaurant and a Christmas carol sing-a-long with the Emley Moor Brass Band.

We’re also celebrating von Rydingsvard’s Polish heritage with a range of events inspired by the country and its traditions. Join us for St. Nicholas’ Day: Festive Stories from around the World with Mother Christmas (6 December, £6, free for supervising adults) and decorate your own Polish ‘pierniczki’ or gingerbread cookies. Enjoy a magical multisensory experience inspired by Polish folktales in the early years workshop Far Away Tales: An Interactive Storytelling Experience for Young Children (7 December, age 0–5, £3, adults free). And visit our mobile planetarium, for the Polish tradition Festival of the Star Celebration on the Winter Solstice (21 December, £3), to learn all about our solar system’s stars, moon and galaxies.

All your Christmas shopping desires can be fulfilled in the treasure trove that is YSP Shop. Choose from a beautiful selection of art-inspired craft kits, handmade jewellery, homewares, books and artists prints; for one-off gifts from international artists and contemporary designer-makers. And don’t miss celebrated artist Emily Sutton’s exhibition, Town and Country, which adorns the walls of YSP Centre from 15 November 2014. All the works in Town and Country are available to buy including original and intricate paintings and screen-prints and Sutton’s beautifully embroidered birds.

If you need a break from all of the exciting activities at the Park, give your feet a rest at YSP Restaurant and savour the Christmas afternoon tea (£15 adult, £7.50 children), with delicious canapés, mince pies and more.

YSP is open every day over the festive period except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Find out more and book events at Shop online at
