Barnsley College recently welcomed pupils from all over the borough to a Hairdressing Summer School.
Thirteen students attended the classes over four days, learning new practical techniques such as plaiting and twisting, shampooing, straightening, curling and crimping, and pin-ups. They were given workbooks and studied the theory of colouring and hair structure and had a real taste of college life by attending a tutorial and an English and maths session.
At the end of the course the students styled each other’s hair and were joined by their families and friends for a presentation of certificates in the college’s Images Commercial Salon.
Course Leader for Hair and Beauty Julie Train said: “It’s been great to see the students so excited to be learning the basics of hairdressing and to give them a taste of what they could expect if they enrolled to a Hair and Beauty course.”
Ruby Davero, 13, from Penistone said: “There has been lots to do and I’ve learnt some new skills. I’ve really enjoyed meeting the other students and showing off my new hairdressing talents.”
Megan Miles, 14, from Athersley North added: “It has been a great opportunity to see the college and make new friends.”
