“Transformed” Academy Awarded Second Highest OFSTED Grade

The Forest Academy in Kendray has been awarded a “Good” rating from its latest OFSTED inspection.

The school’s first inspection since converting to an academy highlights “outstanding leadership”, a “significant rise in pupils’ achievement”, and a highly improved quality of teaching which has led to a more “enjoyable experience for pupils”. The academy achieved the Grade 2 rating in all judged areas which are leadership and management, behaviour and safety of pupils, quality of teaching, achievement of pupils, and early years provision.

The report highlights that the Principal Sam Bailey’s “exceptional leadership has transformed the school” since she joined last September. With the support of Wellspring Academy Trust, the Principal has “inspired the drive for improvement”.

“The rapidly improving achievement of all pupils demonstrates the success of leaders, teachers and support staff in ensuring that all pupils have equal opportunities to make good progress”.

Praise is also heaped upon the pupils who are described as “polite and well mannered”, and were “welcoming to visitors and keen to share their interests”. They have achieved a “distinct and rapid increase” in progress since the school converted to an academy. Inspectors noticed that older pupils enjoy playing with younger pupils and are eager to help them improve their reading skills.

The breakfast club, “enthusiastically and efficiently run by staff and parent volunteers” is also singled out as “outstanding”. Sam Bailey, Principal of Forest commented; “I am delighted that the Ofsted team recognised the wonderful children and families we serve. They also recognised the hard work of a very dedicated staff team at Forest. It is my privilege to lead such a fantastic community and I am fully motivated achieving our next step – which is to bring an outstanding school to our community.”

Mark Wilson, CEO Wellspring Academy Trust commented; “We are delighted with what the report says about our school, our staff, our children and our community.  Everyone can be very proud of what is being achieved at Forest.”
